Easter 2011

This year we had Easter at our house.

We got up really early and started the day off with Easter baskets.  Kanin's basket was WWE wrestling stuff.

This year Gracie and Caleb got pre-made baskets.  It was just easier (and cheaper) and they don't know yet that most of that stuff is just plastic junky toys.

Our great niece, Kenzie, was at our house on Easter morning.  She got this Dora microphone and it was a big hit with everyone.

Here's my handsome man all dressed up.

This is a typical scene at our house.  Gracie was mad and crying about something, Kanin was being good and smiling away, and Caleb wanted to know what was wrong with Gracie.

I guess Gracie got into a good mood sometime during church and I was able to get this awesome picture of her.  She has her Daddy's eyes.

Here we are after church for our picture.  I had to run out on Saturday and get this dark navy shrug.  The one that came with the dress was more of a turquoise blue and it just did not look good.  Overall, I think the navy worked.

Hottie Scottie and me

When I first got into the family it was kind of a joke that I would always make us match at holiday or weddings.  When we were growing up my mom always tried to make us match and both my sister and I have just kept it going.  Anyway, this year my niece, Susie, and my sister-in-law, Sherri, (Susie's mom) got in on the action and each had their own family match.  I think they looked great!

Susie, Doug, and Kenzie

John and Sherri

There is a place in Springfield, IL that makes these cute popcorn bunnies.  Sherri brought them down for all of the kids but I think I love them more than they do.  They are yummy!

My mom and dad

Sherri has a friend that is in the cupcake business.  She made these gourmet cupcakes.  There were all kinds of different ones like Peeps cupcakes and margarita-filled cakes.

After church everyone came back to our house to eat and hunt and dye Easter eggs.

Here is my great nephew, Ben.  Isn't he adorable?

Even though it was sprinkling pretty good, we decided to go ahead and hide and hunt eggs outside.  There were 8 kids hunting and it would have been chaos in the house.

This was the first year for Caleb to hunt eggs.

My nephew, Aidan, found one right out the door.

The little ones needed some help.

Here is my niece, Alison.  I have a feeling that next year she may be moving over to the "hiding" team.  She still had fun hunting this year, though.

All of the kids with their baskets.  My niece, Sarah, even brought Baby Ian (great nephew) out to be in the picture.

When we were growing up we always hunted the real eggs that we had dyed the day before.  Scott's family, though, has always hunted plastic eggs filled with candy, money, stickers, and other little goodies.  We had enough eggs for each kid to have 17 eggs.  After hunting, we went back inside and emptied out our eggs.

Here is Aidan and Kanin.  Aidan is my sister's son and is about 1 year and 2 weeks older than Kanin.  When they were little everyone used to ask if they were twins.  With this new haircut, they do look a lot alike.

A rare picture of me and GracieAnn.

After sorting through our plastic eggs, it was time to dye eggs.  We dyed 48 eggs.  Here is my sister-in-law, Debbie, dying eggs with her grandson, Ben.

I hope you all had a fantastic Easter.

Friday Confessional

Photobucket

Friday Confessional

I confess . . . that I have not been very nice to my family this week.  Blame it on PMS, blame it on stress, blame it on the full moon.  I don't know but they have really been on my nerves this week.

I confess . . . related to my first confession, my children are on my last nerve.  They can't look at each other without getting in an argument and I am so sick of hearing that crap all of the time.

I confess . . . that I really would love to just get away for a couple of days.

I confess . . . that I am excited to watch the Royal Wedding.  I will probably get up at 4am to watch it and I will be DVR'ing it, too.

I confess . . . that the government and taxes have been a major cause of stress around here.  Paying 33% of your taxable income just doesn't seem fair.

I confess . . . that I've fallen a bit from the eating healthy wagon.  Spring/Summer grilling gets me every year.

I confess . . . that going through the basement and trying to figure out what to keep from my high school and college days sends me into a bit of a panic attack.  I am scared, though, because I can honestly see myself being a hoarder when I am older and I don't want to put that burden on my children.

I confess . . .that thoughts of a baby have entered my mind a couple of times this week but, I know that I am done.  I think I'm just missing getting all of the snuggles.

I confess . . . that my children hurt my feelings pretty easily and pretty often.  I'm the one that is with them all of the time, cooks the food, does the laundry, etc and Scott is the one that gets all of the hugs and attention.

Anything you need to get off your chest?  Head over to Dandelion Wishes to participate.

Are You Kidding Me?

I am not a political person.  I have Conservative beliefs but I see aspects on both sides that I agree with.  I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinions.  I rarely get into political discussions.  I typically think that one side is just as bad as the other and, for the most part, they are all crooks, thieves, and liars.  I hate when they get on TV and talk over each other and call each other names when their side is doing the exact same thing as the other.  I could go on and on about how politics gets on my nerves.

One of the things that I hate the most about politics is when news organizations try to dig up info on the politician's past just so they can attack it.  What's worse, though, is when they attack the politician's family.

While reading my feed this morning, I saw a post from Carrie at Carrie with Children that caught my eye.  Apparently, there is a political gossip site called Wonkette.  I am NOT going to link to this trash but you can look it up if you want.  Anyway, a writer (I won't give him the privilege of metioning his name) wrote an article about Sarah Palin.  I have my own issues with Sarah Palin and I am not a supporter of hers.  The problem with this article, though, was that he wasn't talking about Sarah Palin, he talked about her son, Trig,  who has Down Syndrome.

This moron wrote:
"What's he dreaming about?  Nothing.  He's retarded."

For the life of me I don't understand what would make him think that this statement was funny or acceptable.  If you want to make fun of Palin that is fine but what kind of person makes such a derogatory comment about a child?

I say one with a very small moral compass.

Advertisers are pulling from Wonkette and there is a peitition on Change.Org asking for an apology.

Please sign this petition from

Carrie has an adorable baby girl, Molly, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.  These types of statements not only hurt the Palin family but they hurt all families who have children with a disability.  My heart hurt for Carrie when I read this ignorant statement and I immediately wanted to ask you to sign this petition.

Help, I'm a Hoarder: Newspapers

While going through the basement, I found tons and tons of newspapers.  Now, I don't mean newspaper in which I was featured for this accomplishment or that one.

I mean newspapers covering world events.  I don't know if I thought they would be worth something someday or if I wanted to be able to remember the events.  Remember, this was before the internet (yes, I am that old) and back when we got our information through TV, radio, and newspaper.  The internet was in its very early stages when I was about a junior in college.

You would think that I am a Royal Chaser with all of these papers.

Death of President Ronald Regan

The Pope dying.

Would you keep any of these?  Do you buy newspapers after major events in history?  I have a lot more, too, I just pulled the first bag out and started snapping pics.
