The last couple of weeks I have finally gotten my motivation back, found a workout that I love and then . . . I hurt my back. I've been in pain for the last couple of days and while it is getting better, I think I am more upset about the fact that I was "on a roll" and then had to come to a screeching halt.
Has this ever happened to you?
I feel like I have been on this same merry-go-round battle between my desire for fitness/working out and my body fighting it. Most of the time, my workout issues revolve around my left foot/ankle which usually just slows down my cardio but I can continue with weights. With my back, though, I wouldn't even attempt to lift weights.
How do you handle injuries? Do you push yourself to come back quickly or do you let nature take its course? Since it has been feeling a bit better the last couple of days, I think I am going to take the weekend off and not push it. If I'm still having any pain on Monday then I'll be heading to a chiropractor just to be checked out. I'm hoping that I just strained something but we'll see . . .
BTW, all of you fierce trainers out there. If you are looking for a good protein shake, check out my post about Body By Vi.
I think I'm allergic to working out! Seriously - it seems that every time we begin again, I end up with a horrible head cold - so not exactly an injury, but close? I try to let my body heal and it run its course.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your back. I know that I am not feeling too motivated right now! I try to take advantage of my health though and run when I can! I hope you get on the mend soon!
ReplyDeleteOh, so sorry that your back is hurting. I tend to push myself too soon and regret it. Good luck listening to your body, and hope you're back at it soon!!
ReplyDeleteOh man! SO sorry you hurt your back! Hope some rest this weekend will do the trick and that you are 100% soon!
ReplyDeletei understand what you are saying...I need a knee replacement but can;t take the time yet b/c my kids are still too needy of me...but there are so many alternative excecises! I can do the elliptical, stationary wts..etc...there is always some way to work out..just stay motivated!!
ReplyDeleteRest up and get well! One thing I know is that if you push things to hard it could end up making things worse. The exercise is there waiting for you so take you time and heal!
ReplyDeletemy gosh, that is never fun dealing with an injury. I usually deal with it best by finding SOMETHING in form of exercise while I'm down and out. back injuries are the worst, so I hope it heals quickly. You might see a doctor so they can get to the bottom of it soon.
ReplyDeleteThat happens to me, too :( I try to see someone who will help it get better faster. I don't push it so that it keeps hurting. I let it get better. I try to keep working out in a way that won't aggravate things, but if that's not possible, then I skip working out. Need to take care of these bodies of ours...we only have the one :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling great and back in the 'game' soon :)
