Things I Learned From My Mom

-Don't let your grease get too hot when cooking fried chicken.

-Wipe down the counters and tables before you sweep.

-Every child is different and has to be discplined in a different way.

-If a boy likes you, he will call you.

-Onions add flavor to everything.

-Be nice to everyone.

-White shoes are to be worn from Easter to Labor Day.  (I know that "rule" has changed but not for me!)

-Dress up when you go to church.

-Ignore (the behavior) when you can.

-Color coordinate your family on Easter and Christmas.

-When cooking, try to always have a meat, vegetable and starch.

-Love Jesus.

-Don't sweat the small stuff.  (I still need help with this one sometimes.)

-How to peel a potato faster with a knife than with a potato peeler.

-Study hard.  Finish school.  Go to college.

-Always say "I love you" before you go to bed, when you leave the house, and when you get off the phone.

-Make due with what you have.

-You are no better than anyone else and no one else is better than you.

-God first, husband second, kids third.

-Always help out if you can.

-The importance of a home-cooked meal and sitting down around the dinner table.

-When doing laundry, separate clothes by color.  Use hot water when washing whites.

-Don't wish your life away.

-When doing dishes by hand, make sure the water is really hot.

-Hang pictures at eye level.

-One of these days, you will miss all of the chaos the kids cause.

-If you can see through your dress or skirt, put on a slip.

-How to sing harmony.

-How to take care of your Mom when she gets old and can't take care of herself.

-Write down stories and memories.

-Never take a day with someone for granted.

-Have a hot supper waiting on your husband when he comes home from work (sometimes I need help with this one).

-Don't make yourself too available.

-Don't be afraid to work hard and get your hands dirty.

-When invited to someone's house for dinner or to eat, always offer to help clean up.

-Always remember to say "Please" and "Thank You."

For all of these things and SO MANY MORE, I thank you, Mom.  I could have kept listing things for days.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!  I love you!!
