1, 2, 3, 4-Repost

I had the most amazing run tonight.  I mean amazing!

For a while now I have been bored with my running music and I kept telling myself that I was going to put my Army cadences on my iPod but, of course, I always forgot until I was actually out running.  Well, last night I remembered to do it and I could not wait to get out on the road.

Wouldn't you know it?  A Heat Advisory (it was 104 degrees) in effect today through the weekend here in St. Louis.  I waited all day until finally after dinner I told Scott that I had to go out for just a bit.  He was strongly against it but I told him I wouldn't be long.  I think it was probably still close to 99 or 100 at this point.

It was fantastic!  I immediately got into a rhythm, breathing was good, feet felt great, knees weren't achy.  I swear I could have ran and ran.  I was actually sad when I had to come back home.  I walked in the door with a huge smile on my face and just said,
"That was awesome!"

While running I was taken back to my Army days and longed to just run in formation one more time.  Just once.  Have you ever been on a training post or heard soldiers running in formation?  To me, it is absolutel one of the best sounds in the world and I miss it all of the time.  I'd give anything to be able to run in a formation with an E7 belting out cadences again.  Or, even better, leading the formation and calling the cadences myself.  Aw, the memories.

If you are having trouble getting into a groove, I suggest try running to a cadence.  You can download them and it makes it so easy to get into a groove because your left foot always hits the pavement on the downbeat.  Give it a try!

Great that it works for you, though.

Love that the differences amongst all of us are so interesting and creative.

  4. We have the same heat advisory! Changed my training plan and switched Sat and Mon runs to be 10 and 20. Hoping the weather is cooler on Mon.

Love the idea of a cadence. I'm going to try it today!

  5. A cadence is an interesting idea, I have a lot of trouble maintaining an even pace. My Garmin is often beeping angrily at me to slow down.

  7. I will have to give that a try sometime. Kind of reminds of the workouts that I do at the Y that they say that their music is a certain speed to keep us going!
