Food Fact Friday

Over the last few months I have really gotten into nutrition.  I post tons of food info on my personal FB page but I realize that most of you are not getting that info so I decided to start Food Fact Friday where I will post various food facts that I have found during the week along with the source so you can do more research.

Food Fact #1 Drinks may be labeled 100 percent pure juice, but that doesn't mean they're made exclusively with the advertised juice.  To avoid the extra sugar, pick single-fruit juices.  Read more HERE

Food Fact #2 Mama Celeste Original Pizza does not contain any real cheese.  If the name or flavor of what you think you are getting (cheese, strawberries, etc) isn't one of the first few ingredients listed, don't buy it.  Read more HERE

Food Fact #3 A study came out this week stating that eating processed meats increases your risk for cancer by 21%.  When possible, only eat either organic or all-natural, hormone-free meats.  Read the study HERE.

Food Fact #4 You have to walk 7.8 miles to "walk off" a Large Frozen Mocha from Panera Bread.  Source:  Eat This, Not That

Food Fact #5 Nutritious food costs 10 times more than junk food.  If you want to make healthier food choices for your family, start incorporating slowly so not to bust your budget.  Read more HERE

Food Fact #6 IHOP's 1700-calorie Big Steak Omelet is the equivalent of nearly 6 McDonald's egg McMuffins. Source:  Eat This, Not That

Food Fact #7 Feel good about ordering either of the 2 salads offered at P.F. Chang's.  The Asian Shrimp Salad and the Chicken Chopped Salad both come in under 500 calories.  Lower the calories even more buy ordering the dressing on the side and just drizzle it over.  Read more HERE.

Food Fact #8 Dairy Queen's Side Salad with Ranch has more calories than the Homestyle Burger.  Order the Grilled Chicken Salad with Italian Dressing instead.  Read more HERE.

Food Fact #9 The Worst Lunch Salad in America is the Burger King Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich with 800 calories, 46 g fat (8 sat fat), and 1,640mg sodium.  Order their Chicken Tenders instead.  They have 400 calories, 21g fat (4 sat fat), and 920mg sodium.  Read more HERE
