Believe!

Last night the unthinkable happened . . . the St. Louis Cardinals clinched the NLCS and are headed to the World Series!

Once again, we weren't even supposed to be here.  We didn't win our Division.  We were the Wild Card team.  The Wild Card is a perfect way to explain this team.

We lost our Ace, Adam Wainwright, for the year before the season even started.  We had numerous injuries that took out our star players and we traded Colby Rasmus, who everyone thought was the future of our team, for a bunch of no-named pitchers (the bullpen) who turned out to collectively pull us through the post season.

This Wild Card team was 10.5 games out of that coveted Wild Card spot and didn't let that stop them.  While the media and most fans thought, "It will never happen," this team never listened.  They kept right on plugging along.

After the downfall of the Atlanta Braves and the winning ways of this Cardinal team, they headed off to the Philadelphia Phillies and took down the giant.  Everyone thought that Philly would destroy us.  Not this Wild Card team.  Not only did we beat them but our #1, Chris Carpenter, put on a pitching display that literally will go down in the history books.  The kind of pitching that you tell your children about and he led us to a 1-0 win . . . in Philly.  Amazing these Wild Card Cardinals.

The NLCS brought the Cardinals face to face against their Central Division rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers.  A couple of years ago there was no rivalry but recently that has changed thanks in large part to the arrogant displays by some of their players.  One player Tweeted about Albert Pujols calling him "Alberta" . . . not a good thing to do.  The Cardinals took those comments to heart and delivered a veritable beat down.  There was no way this Wild Card team was going to be shown up.  No way.

So when it came down to the final pitch last night, I sat there in disbelief.  Tears in my eyes and a smile on my face.  This Wild Card team did it.  They did it!

No matter what happens in the World Series, just being there is icing on the cake.  To watch a team come together and beat all of the odds and everyone's predictions has been nothing short of amazing.
