Smart and Trendy Moms

The last couple of days I have noticed something that makes me happy and also sad.  Caleb and Gracie have really been playing together a lot.  I mean like actual playing.  While upstairs folding laundry, they were "cooking" in the little kitchen, dressing up for a day at the beach, and playing babies with all of the stuffed animals.

I love that they are enjoying each other.  I love that she is so sweet and kind to her baby brother.  I love the way he follows her around.

What makes me sad, though, is that Kanin really isn't a part of any of this.  There is a 4 year age gap between Kanin and GracieAnn and a 6 year age gap between Kanin and Caleb.  With this many years between them, Kanin just isn't interested in playing the same things that the "babies" are into.  He would rather be watching his shows, playing World Cup Soccer on the PS3, or writing about countries.  He seems content in doing these things on his own but, as a Mommy, it makes me sad that he isn't part of their little group.

I'm sure as Caleb gets older and becomes involved in sports they will have a lot more in common but, for now, it just sometimes seems like Kanin is the outsider.

  1. Like you said I am sure once Caleb gets older they will interact a lot more, but I totally understand as a mommy where your coming from. Although none of mine are that far apart. Timothy and Mason are 17 months apart, and Mason and Taylor are 20 months apart. Even though none of mine were planned, I am so glad they are all so close in age! I am sure though Taylor will be the outsider with 2 brothers, that or she will be a big tomboy!

  3. I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter and we've been trying to conceive another baby for a year now. I constantly worry about the increasing age gap between her and a possible second child. I wanted them close, but now it's just not going to happen. I understand how you must feel because I think of those same things when it comes to siblings and age gaps:)

  4. Following from the hop! Our kids are spaced pretty closely (sorta kinda intentional) but there are only 3 and I think we will probably have some of the same issues!
